Brilliant Businesses: Knights Pharmacy

Founded in 1985 by Nitin Sodha, Knights Pharmacy is a family-owned community pharmacy group with branches located across the West Midlands and South Wales.

The group was taken over by Nitin’s son, Anand Sodha, in 2021, at which point there were 20 Knights Pharmacy branches. In just four years, the group has hugely expanded and now includes almost 80 branches, making it the largest independent community pharmacy group in Wales.

The growth of this business is truly impressive. While it now benefits from the group’s size – benefiting from efficiencies in stock and staff – it has maintained the ethos of a family-owned and operated business through its strong community presence and sponsorship of local sporting clubs and festival events. While Anand and his teams work hard to bed in their latest acquisitions, their priority remains ensuring the continuity of services for patients and consistency for staff.

“Growing from 20 branches in 2021 to almost 80 this year has been a challenging ride, but we’re constantly trying to keep our central functions lean and efficient, so the focus is solely on the patient. We try to operate using the NHS ‘line of sight methodology’ where every decision has a clear connection between the patient and the organisational goal. We try to grow very carefully into regions where we think we can offer the best possible service to our customers.
