The Scottish convenience retail market remains active despite the challenging economic backdrop. The buoyancy in the market is being driven by the number of multiple operators looking to expand their portfolios. Ascona Group’s recent acquisition of LA Services in Grangemouth and Greens Retail’s purchase of Brownlies of Biggar perfectly illustrate this ongoing appetite.

Buyer demand is also stemming from commission operators looking to take on their first petrol filling station and first-time buyers from outside the sector, suggesting retail assets are perceived as a safer investment option amidst the current economic uncertainty. There has been an increase in retirement sales following the pandemic, which presents a fantastic opportunity for these buyers.

We are currently marketing a number of excellent retail opportunities across Scotland. Read on to find out more about these sites, along with some of our recent sales.

FOR SALE

Boat Of Garten Post Office

Stunning convenience store and post office in the heart of the local community of Boat of Garten. The owners are looking to retire, presenting an excellent opportunity for a new owner to take over the reins of a very successful business in a picturesque part of the country.

Bellabeg Shop (Spar) & Post Office

Bellabeg Shop & Post Office is currently owned by Jamie and Denise Howse, who now wish to relocate. They comment, “We have had the most amazing nine years bedding ourselves into the community, transforming the business and house into what is brilliantly presented by Christie & Co. We have a new chapter to fulfil which gives the new owners of Bellabeg Shop a walk-in, successful and ready to run business.

Red Kite Café

The Red Kite Café has been owned by Mr Kedar and Mrs Carys Kshetri for six years, and has come to the market so they can now focus on other opportunities in the hospitality sector. Building the business from the ground up, they have completed a full renovation and have continued to build turnover steadily (increased 15% from 2018 to 2021) even during covid lockdowns by providing a takeaway and ‘heat at home’ service.

SOLD

Brownlies of Biggar

An award-winning convenience store and post office in Southern Scotland. Sold after multiple offers to a growing operator. A retirement sale, the vendors were pleased with the outcome and the ingoing retailer as it is the main store in town and the only post office for miles. They wanted the legacy they had built up over the years to continue, something we were able to do.
