Can you tell us about your role and what you focus on day-to-day at Christie & Co?

“I work as a Graduate Surveyor within the Valuation team at Christie & Co, working across all our sectors. My role involves supporting both colleagues and clients throughout the valuation process, from instruction through to reporting.

“A large part of my work involves assisting with valuations for loan security, across a range of asset types, which to date have included medical, specialist care, and hospitality. Day to day, no two projects or valuations are the same, and I regularly work with different teams, which provides valuable insight across the wider business.”

How long have you been with the company, and what drew you to join?

“I’ve been with the company for nearly two years. What attracted me initially was how specialised Christie & Co is within its sectors. In particular, the pubs and restaurants market is quite niche, which really appealed to me - especially as I’ve always had a strong interest in the sector.”

You were recently awarded the ‘Rising Star’ at our company awards, in recognition of your hard work last year. What does that mean to you personally?

“It’s incredibly motivating and a real honour. Being recognised by colleagues - particularly David and Alex - for the effort I’ve put in means a lot, and it’s rewarding to know I’m having a positive impact on the wider team.”

What has been the most challenging or rewarding part of your work this year?

“The most rewarding aspect has been seeing the work I’ve done contribute to my colleagues’ success. Knowing that I’ve played a part in helping them hit their targets and achieve their goals is really satisfying.”

Is there a particular project or achievement that you’re especially proud of?

“One of my biggest achievements was leading on the marketing and sales process for a portfolio of Star Pubs. We successfully had all the sites under offer within around six weeks of going to market. I’m particularly proud of taking the lead on that portfolio and helping to achieve three completed sales, ensuring a successful outcome overall.”

What keeps you motivated during busy or challenging times?

“Professionally, my main goal is achieving my APC - the accreditation required to become a surveyor - and that’s a big motivator at this stage in my career. Personally, my family also plays a huge role in keeping me motivated and focused.”

How do you approach problem-solving or staying resilient under pressure?

“For me, it comes down to good time management and prioritising what needs immediate attention. Open communication with colleagues and clients is also key - talking through challenges helps reduce stress and leads to solutions more quickly.”

How has your team or the company supported you in achieving your goals?

“The support has been fantastic. From day one, the teams I’ve worked with have taken me under their wing, generously sharing their knowledge and advice, particularly David and Alex in my first year, as well as the wider Leeds office.

“From a company perspective, the onboarding process, training, and resources have all played a big part in helping me develop professionally in my first role after university.”

What do you enjoy most about working at Christie & Co?

“What I enjoy most is the level of exposure and responsibility I’ve been given. You’re not treated as ‘just a graduate’ - you’re trusted to contribute and make an impact.

“Being directly involved in major projects and having the freedom to take ownership is incredibly rewarding. There are no unnecessary restrictions, and you genuinely feel that your work makes a difference.”

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their career here, what would it be?

“Be proactive and ask questions - especially as a graduate. Absorb as much as you can in your first few months; it’s all about learning and building your knowledge.”

Why would you recommend Christie & Co as an employer?

“It comes back to the exposure you’re given. There are no limits to what you can get involved in as a graduate. If you show initiative and express an interest, the company will support you and provide opportunities - there are very few restrictions on what you can do.”
