Having previously operated as a cocktail bar and restaurant, the property has been vacant since last Autumn and sits in a prime position in the centre of Ipswich’s restaurant and wine bar district.
The property has been let to Darren and Hannah Alexander, who plan to reopen and run a café-bistro business. They commented, “We are very excited to be taking on this fantastic, listed building, which is in the perfect location. The next couple of months will be spent renovating the inside and back courtyard, including a completely new kitchen and service area, upgraded restrooms, and decorating throughout. We plan to open in mid-October.
“Once opened, we will be serving hot and cold food including full English breakfasts, a selection of bagels and baps to eat in or take away, pastries, cakes, and our speciality bread bowl soups. We will also be offering barista coffees, soft drinks, and alcoholic drinks including beer on tap. We also look forward to being able to cater for private parties and celebrations in our upstairs area or in our fantastic courtyard. We look forward to welcoming our new customers soon.”
The property has been let by freehold owner Mike, who has owned the property for over 20 years. He commented, “I am delighted to welcome Darren and Hannah as the latest addition to the St Nicholas Street family of high-class restaurants, bistros, cafes and independent shops.
“Their enthusiasm and commitment to providing a unique product, focussing on fresh and locally sourced ingredients where possible, should prove popular, and I wish them every success in their new venture.”
Hugo Fairbanks Weston, Business Agent at Christie & Co, managed the letting process and added, “We received viewing requests from day one of going to market with this property. Once again, buyer demand has proved to be very strong, even for closed businesses that need bringing back to life. The leasehold market is very active, and we have completed on three leasehold deals in the last month in the region.”
