Blackmore Vale Leisure put onto the market as owners seek to retire

Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co has brought to market, Blackmore Vale Leisure, a family-run business specialising in the retail and servicing of new and used caravans and motorhomes for over 50 years.

The business is a main dealer to leading premium brands including Knaus, Weinsberg & T@B and boasts an impressive list of accolades, including six consecutive customer satisfaction Gold Awards since 2018 from “Practical Caravan” and “The Caravan and Camping Club”. The business was recognised as the “Best New Caravan Dealer in the UK” (2018) and “Best Pre-Owned Caravan Dealer in the UK” (2019) and received gold in the same awards for 2021.

Located on a main A Road location on the outskirts of Shaftesbury the site is ideally positioned to serve the popular caravanning destinations on the South Coast, including Dorset, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire and The New Forest National Park.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic Blackmore Vale Leisure has simplified their business model by reducing the hire fleet and concentrating more on the retail side of the business, where demand has risen markedly.

The current owners, Dawn and Paul Hopkins believe there is a fantastic opportunity for an incoming owner to grow the business by further capitalising on the growing motorhome market, building a greater online presence and refurbishing the workshop / servicing department.

Blackmore Vale Leisure has also been quick to capitalise on the new younger buyers entering the caravan market. The emphasis for this market is sporty and chic models and the business is well positioned being the leading supplier of the small lightweight T@B caravan. Indeed, these lightweight Micro Caravans also future proof sales as they are ideal for electric cars to tow, as demonstrated recently on BBC motoring program Top Gear.

Dawn and Paul comment, “It’s with a heavy heart that after fifty years we are retiring from being in the enviable position of running Blackmore Vale Leisure, a reputed name throughout the UK. We have decided to pass this amazing company on, with its dedicated and knowledgeable staff, to somebody that will carry on nurturing and building it to its full potential. The business has not only given us a wonderful income but has also been fun which is rarely found in the workplace today.”

The business is available on a freehold or leasehold basis and those interested in further information about the business should contact Tom Glanvill, Retail Associate Director at Christie & Co.

The business has a team of knowledgeable and dedicated staff that will transfer across when the business is sold under TUPE.

Tom Glanvill comments, “Blackmore Vale Leisure is a fantastic opportunity for a buyer to acquire a highly profitable and long-established business that is perfectly placed to benefit from the growing UK caravanning market which according to the DVLA saw an 8.25% increase in registrations of new motorhomes in last year alone and as the National Caravan Council recently reported “the industry is successfully attracting a new younger customer while retaining existing ones”.  The south Coast is one of the most affluent parts of the UK and probably has the highest concentration of camp sites, Blackmore Vale Leisure is once again ideally placed to serve this market.”
