Farah Chemists sells final County Durham pharmacy to first-time buyer couple
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Burnopfield Pharmacy in Derwentside, County Durham.

Burnopfield Pharmacy is a standard hours pharmacy that dispenses an average of 9,785 NHS items per month. It sits within a busy health centre, adjoined to Cedar Medical Group practice, in the village of Burnopfield, north of Stanley and seven miles from Newcastle upon Tyne.
The pharmacy has been owned by group operator, Farah Chemists, since 2006, when it was first built along with the GP surgery. Farah Chemists wanted to sell to focus their efforts on their group of five pharmacies in Newcastle. This is the third and last pharmacy they have sold in County Durham.
Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, it has been purchased by first-time buyers and experienced Pharmacists, Mr Ali Avaei and Mrs Saba Moazzen.
Mr Avaei and Mrs Moazzen, the new owners of Burnopfield Pharmacy, comment, “Our priority is to enhance the volume of NHS Pharmacy First consultations we deliver, further develop the Blood Pressure service, and work closely with local GP surgeries to ensure local people receive an excellent, accessible, and high-quality pharmacy experience.”
Karl Clezy, Director - Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “This is the third pharmacy we have sold for Farah Chemists in County Durham, and all three branches have been sold to first-time buyers. This sale proves, again, that there is strong demand from new entrants to the market across the north east of England. We are finding many younger Pharmacists are keen to acquire their first pharmacy, and at this point in time, there is a shortage of pharmacies on the market in the area to meet such demand.”
Burnopfield Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
