Carters Chemist is a family-run community pharmacy dispensing on average 6,800 items per month and providing additional services including the Pharmacy First scheme and a contraceptive service. The pharmacy was built 10 years ago when it was relocated to the current site.
Situated on Maple Road in the Manchester suburb of Brooklands, Carters Chemist is located within a residential housing estate approximately seven miles south of Manchester city centre. The Woodlands Medical Practice sits just under 100 yards away.
Carters Chemist was owned by David Carter and is the last of four pharmacies he has sold in the last 10 years through Christie & Co. Carters Chemist was brought to market as his sister, Gill, who managed the business, is now retiring.
Following a confidential sales process with Jon Booth at Christie & Co, the business has been sold to a family-run local pharmacy group, Zemmel Chemist Ltd, which already owns eight pharmacy branches across Greater Manchester.
David Carter, the former owner of Carters Chemist, comments, “After 56 years of serving as a pharmacist, I was keen to sell to an independent local group who would develop the business with all the new opportunities available. My sister, Gill, has managed the pharmacy for 38 years and has done a wonderful job of running the business. This was the last of my four pharmacies sold by Christie & Co, and I want to thank Jon Booth for dealing with this one.”
Shamoil and Zulfikar Karimjee, new owners of Zemmel Chemist Ltd, comment, “We’re very happy with the pharmacy purchase. It was a pleasure to work with Jon and the team on another sale. We hope to build on the success that David and his team have achieved in running a successful pharmacy.”
Jon Booth, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “It is no surprise that Carters Chemist attracted strong interest when we launched to market. Having been located in Manchester and with so few opportunities of this type being in the market at that time, within just three weeks, we had over 100 enquiries and six offers. It was great to be trusted with former owner David’s business over the years, and he was a pleasure to work with. I know the buyers have significant plans to grow the business. I look forward to seeing how that progresses.”
Carters Chemist was sold for an undisclosed price.
