Co-Chem Pharmacy is a standard hours community pharmacy that dispenses an average of 5,750 items per month. It is located in Handsworth, a suburb in North-West Birmingham, just three miles from Birmingham city centre.
The pharmacy has been owned and operated by husband and wife, Zulfqar and Yasmeen Ahmed, for 40 years.
Following a confidential sales process with Carl Steer at Christie & Co, the business has been purchased by Kassim and Ali Mawji, who currently own and operate Star Pharmacy in Perry Barr, along with business partners, Sameer Damji and Jaffer Alibhai.
Yasmeen and Zulfqar Ahmed, the former owners, comment, ‘It has been an honour to serve the Handsworth community since 1986. We have witnessed such change in the area and in the pharmacy profession over the years, but our amazing patients have been there all along the journey. We hope that we were able to make a little difference to their health and wellbeing and wish them all the very best in the very capable hands of the new owners.”
Carl Steer, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “Once my clients decided it was time to retire, we met and got on immediately, and we all knew we would work well together. Pharmacy sales are rarely straightforward, but once the sale was agreed, the process was concluded in just four months due to a great team of sellers, buyers, and excellent work by both firms of solicitors.”
Co-Chem Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
