Rare large Nuneaton day nursery sold to father-and-daughter duo

Ducklings Day Nursery is a large, ‘Good’ rated setting that can cater for up to 100 children at a time. It occupies a former church building on Attleborough Road, a busy, residential street in the heart of Nuneaton.

The setting has been owned by Yvonne Buxton since 2003 and was brought to market to allow her to retire.

Following a confidential sales process with Jassi Sunner at Christie & Co, it has been purchased by father and daughter team, Darren and Emily Whiten. Having previously owned and sold day nurseries, the family is excited about re-entering the sector.

Yvonne Buxton, former owner of Ducklings Day Nursery, comments, “I opened the nursery on 1 September 1997 in a portable building, then moved into the new building in 2003. We started with two children, and it has built up from there, with those children bringing their own children to the nursery, which has been really nice. I decided to retire as I’m now 71 and wanted to spend more time with my husband and family – this was the hardest decision, but Jassi from Christie & Co found a lovely family that I felt was right for the nursery. I’m sure the setting will welcome other families who have moved into the area and still have children from the families we already know. I wish them all the best in their new adventure.”

Jassi Sunner, Associate Director – Childcare & Education at Christie & Co, comments, “There are not many nurseries of this size in the area, let alone in the wider county. With the demand for nursery spaces only increasing, the floor space of this nursery provides a platform for redevelopment as well as reconfiguration to take advantage of more children joining in the coming year.

“Following a confidential marketing process, we were able to attract 35 enquiries, nine viewings and six offers, which allowed our client, Yvonne, to make an informed decision about who to sell her business to. The acceptable offer came from Emily and Darren, and it is great to see Darren back in the sector. Yvonne has been a real delight to work with, and we wish her all the best with retirement.”

Ducklings Day Nursery was sold for an undisclosed price.
