Prior to closing, The Earl of Pitt Street, renowned for its distinctive “Alfred Hitchcock-meets-Vivienne Westwood” décor, had built an excellent reputation for its high-quality food and memorable atmosphere, and was regarded as one of the city’s best‑known hospitality destinations. The venue offers 85 covers across bar and restaurant spaces, as well as a commercial kitchen.

The property is located within walking distance of Newcastle Helix, Newcastle University Business School, and major transport links. The pub attracted significant attention from both local operators and regional hospitality groups, reflecting continued strength and resilience in the North East leisure market.

Marslie McGregor, Senior Business Agent – Pubs & Restaurants at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, added, “We’re delighted with the level of interest the Earl of Pitt Street generated. Its proximity to St James’ Park, established reputation, and standout character made it a rare opportunity in the market. The volume of enquiries and multiple competing offers reflect the strong appetite we’re seeing for well‑positioned hospitality assets across Newcastle. We look forward to seeing the new owners bring this much‑loved venue back to life.”
