Eden Arms, Newton Aycliffe sells for ongoing hotel use

Dating back to the 17th century, this well-known hotel located in the village of Rushyford is named after the local Eden Family, which includes former British Prime Minister, Sir Anthony Eden. The hotel sits on a two-acres site and features 44 bedrooms, several bars, restaurants and function rooms, as well as a pool and gym.

Christie & Co Hospitality Director, Mark Worley, who is based in the North East and managed the sale, advises, “The hotel closed at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and our marketing efforts produced a good deal of interest amongst buyers across a variety of sectors and for a host of different uses. However, I am delighted to announce that the new owner, who wishes to remain anonymous at present, plans to invest heavily in the building, and more importantly, to keep it trading as a hotel and hospitality operation, which will come as welcome news to the residents of the surrounding areas.

“The hospitality market is very buoyant at present with the demand for hotels, pubs, restaurants and B&Bs, outstripping supply,” he continues. “The appeal of the sector is largely due to the level of staycation business currently enjoyed by leisure operators, which comes as a result of lingering concerns over foreign travel and also due to the realisation by holiday makers, that the UK is a great place to holiday.”
