Family-run Hamilton hotel serving Italian cuisine sold
Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced the sale of The Avonbridge Hotel, a long-established family-run hotel located in the heart of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

The Avonbridge is a modern three-star hotel and is particularly known locally for its food and drink offerings as well as accommodation and events. The hotel comprises 65 en suite letting rooms and its function rooms are suitable for weddings, parties, business meetings and conferences.
Situated in Hamilton, a historic town on the outskirts of Glasgow, the hotel is popular amongst visitors to Scotland, acting as a calm and rural escape from metropolitan cities.
The business also includes bars and lounge areas for drinks and casual dining, a conservatory restaurant serving a mix of Scottish and Italian cuisine, and Bar Milano, which focuses on Italian-style dishes such as pizza.
The Avonbridge was founded in 1973 by the late Luigi and Rita Martalo, an Italian couple who had already built up a successful catering business in Hamilton after arriving in Scotland. By the early 1980s their children were involved, and the family expanded further by opening another hotel, named the Bothwell Bridge Hotel, in 1981. The hotel has remained family-owned and operated, continuing through multiple generations of the Martalo family.

We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our customers who have loyally supported the business and a big thank you to the staff who made it all possible.”

Having sold The Bothwell Bridge Hotel in Bothwell a few years ago, the sale of The Avonbridge Hotel makes for a ‘double’ of quality hotels being sold by Christie & Co and indeed myself on behalf of the Martalo family.”
The Avonbridge Hotel was sold at an undisclosed sum.
