Garden centre in Fochabers, established in 1820, sold to expanding garden centre group in retirement sale

Established by Thomas Christie in 1820 and run by the Christie family ever since, the garden centre caters to all the needs of the local community.  Ronald and Christine Christie, the fifth generation of the Christie family, decided to sell the centre to allow them to retire.

The site has been purchased by Simpsons Garden Centres, with the acquisition bringing their portfolio in the North of Scotland to three garden centres, joining sites near Inverness and Peterhead. They plan to modernise the centre in line with their other sites.

Mark Lavery, Associate Director at Christie & Co, managed the sale process and said, “Christies of Fochabers is a hugely popular garden centre, commanding a great position at the top of the town. It has been a ‘must go’ place for many residents, for all their garden supplies as well as a place to meet up for a coffee or bite to eat. The centre also caters for children, with plenty of outdoor facilities. We marketed the site confidentially to a targeted list of potential purchasers, and it quickly gathered substantial interest from both seasoned garden centre operators and ‘new to market’ entrants. With multiple viewings arranged, a sale was quickly agreed, and we look forward to seeing the centre flourish under Simpsons’ ownership.”

The centre freehold was sold at an undisclosed price.
