Frensham House was previously registered to accommodate 14 elderly people across 12 bedrooms. It comprises a two-storey, detached period property with well-maintained and expansive gardens. The property is located in the coastal town of Brixham, South Devon, neighbouring the desirable beach towns of Paignton and Torquay. With popular beaches and scenic seafronts, the area brings in huge numbers of tourists and has a large retirement community, presenting an excellent opportunity to repurpose the former care home.
The former care home was previously owned by family business, Stonehaven Care Group, a local operator that acquired Frensham House as its second care facility in the late 1990s. The family successfully managed the home for over two decades before the decision was taken to close it for economic reasons in September 2024.
Following a confidential sales process with Simon Harvey at Christie & Co, it has now been sold and will be refurbished ahead of a repositioning in the care market.
Nick Connors, Managing Director at Stonehaven Care Group, comments, “The decision to close Frensham House was a very tough one after operating the home for so many years. We are delighted that the property will continue to support much-needed care provision in the local area.”
Simon Harvey, Senior Director - Care at Christie & Co, comments, “Having been entrusted to market the property on behalf of Stonehaven Care Group, we were delighted to have not only found them a buyer but also to know that the property will remain in the care sector for the foreseeable future. This sale is yet another example of the appetite in the South West care market for a wide range of both care businesses and properties where opportunities exist to refurbish and reposition within the sector. Our marketing reached a wide range of potential buyers, and it is pleasing to have been able to achieve a positive outcome for both buyer and seller.”
Frensham House was sold for an undisclosed price.
