Set on the original road leading into Glencoe village, The Clachaig Inn sits at the foot of the dramatic Glencoe peaks, an area recognised worldwide both for its cinematic scenery, including its appearance in Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban, and for its enduring appeal to visitors exploring the Highlands.

The inn takes its name from Clachaig Gully, a striking natural feature that climbs more than 3,000 feet from the former coaching route to the summit of Sgurr nam Fiannaidh, Scotland’s 187th highest Munro.

With origins stretching back over three centuries, the property originally served as a rest stop for travellers journeying between the Highlands and trading hubs such as Perth and destinations further south.

Peter and Eileen Daynes acquired the inn in 1984 and embarked on an extensive programme of modernisation and expansion. Their work included upgrading and developing both the self‑catering chalets and guest accommodation, increasing the number of en suite bedrooms to 23. Their sons, Guy and Ed, followed in their footsteps, and have continued to develop and operate the inn since 1990.

Working in conjunction with the BMC, Peter also established the Winter Mountain Safety Lectures at Clachaig. Over the years, the sponsored lectures have been attended by thousands of hill goers, and recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, with entry still free of charge to this day.

Clachaig has become well-known for its cask-conditioned ales and vibrant events calendar. Its popular FebruaryFest and Octoberfest beer festivals have been annual fixtures for decades, while weekly live music nights with local performers remain a hallmark of the inn’s atmosphere.

Situated approximately half a mile from the A82, the key route connecting Glasgow and the Central Belt to Fort William, the north-west Highlands and the islands, the inn benefits from strong year-round visibility and visitor traffic.

Ed and Guy Daynes commented, “Clachaig is more than just an inn, it’s an institution. There’s always been something very special about the place and the experiences that it creates. It’s been a family home for three generations of the Daynes family, and deciding to sell has been the hardest of decisions to make, but the time has come to find a new custodian.”

Brian Sheldon, Regional Director – Hospitality at Christie & Co, is managing the sale, along with Tony Spence, Associate Director. Brian commented, “The sale of The Clachaig Inn will most certainly attract interest internationally. The location itself is one of natural beauty and steeped in history, making it a unique opportunity for the discerning buyer.”

The Clachaig Inn is on the market with an asking price of £3,800,000
