Bellfield Suites comprises two thirds of Bellfield House, an ornate country mansion built in the 1830s and boasts a host of period features including marble fireplaces, beautiful ornate hall with a magnificent pine wooden staircase and galleried landing overlooking the hall below.
In the 1970s, the building was converted to holiday suites and now comprises 12 suites with lounges and bathrooms, including 19 bedrooms overall, and trades as a holiday and leisure business. Externally the property features a large car park and private grounds as well as a walled courtyard. The property also offers the potential to create owners’ accommodation, through the conversion of existing letting rooms if desired.
Bellfield was built by Colonel Thomas Theakston as a family home of the famous Theakston Brewery and is situated on the edge of Masham. The mansion is ideally positioned to take advantage of tourists visiting a range of local and regional attractions such as Masham Steam Fair and Sheep Fair or visiting the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town of Leyburn and the city of Ripon are close by, while further afield are the towns of Richmond, Pateley Bridge and Harrogate.
The current owner, Rita Dinsdale, has operated the holiday accommodation business for 50 years but has decided to sell in order to retire.
Rita said, “It has been a pleasure and privilege to own such a magnificent mansion for the past 50 years in the Yorkshire countryside, which has given pleasure to thousands of guests from all over the world. I hope the new owner will love and cherish this beautiful one-off building as I have, being set in this wonderful location in this historic market town.”
Mark Worley, Director – Hotels at Christie & Co, who is managing the sale process, commented, “We’re seeing increasing demand for holiday accommodation that can cater for multi-generational groups, or couples wanting a quiet relaxing stay. Bellfield is ideal having spacious lounges. bathrooms and multiple bedrooms depending on the requirements of the guests.
“At the same time, travellers are increasingly favouring shorter, more spontaneous breaks of two to three nights, reflecting a growing preference for flexibility and value."
Bellfield Suites is on the market freehold with an asking price of £850,000.
