Leadgate Pharmacy is an established community pharmacy that dispenses an average of circa 11,000 items per month. It sits completely unopposed in the village of Leadgate, adjacent to a busy health centre which generates nearly 16,000 script items per month. The pharmacy dispensed around 56 per cent of these items.

The pharmacy has been owned by Newcastle-based group operator, Farah Chemists, since 2010. Its owners decided to sell to concentrate on their five Newcastle branches.

Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Craig Dickson at Christie Finance, it has been purchased by the newly formed company, Rukara Ltd, which is owned by a pair of Pharmacists.

Manjusha Gunti, co-owner at Rukara Ltd, comments, “As Pharmacists, me and Bhanu have always been passionate about community health and the vital role pharmacies play in people’s daily lives. By acquiring this pharmacy, my goal is to create a welcoming, patient-centred environment where individuals can access trusted advice, reliable services, and innovative health solutions close to home. Following the acquisition, we have plans to expand the range of services offered, including flu and travel vaccinations, health checks, and digital prescription services. The focus will be on modernising operations while maintaining the personal touch that local patients value. We want the pharmacy to become more than a place to collect prescriptions. It will be a true community health hub, supporting healthier living, preventive care, and strong partnerships with local GPs, care homes, and residents.”

Karl Clezy, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “It was a pleasure selling this pharmacy to first-time buyers. We received several offers for this pharmacy, as, although it was trading successfully, it still has potential to trade better by carrying out more additional healthcare services.”

Leadgate Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
