Black Bull Inn

Established in 1747, the Black Bull Inn retains many original period features such as a real coal fire in the cosy lounge bar, which offers a welcoming atmosphere, as well as serving classic Scottish pub fare and great cask-conditioned ales.

Situated on Market Street in the West Lothian village of Mid Calder, the pub enjoys a central location in the heart of the community and benefits from strong footfall in the area as well as its proximity to its new town neighbour, Livingston.

Previously the winner of a Best Bar None Platinum Award, the Black Bull Inn features a function room available to hire at the rear of the pub, suitable for meetings or functions, and an inviting beer garden.

The freehold investment was brought to market on behalf of Iona Pub Partnership and, following a sale process with Christie & Co, has been acquired by Donald and Lynda McLauchlan, who have been the sitting tenants since 2009 and were delighted when the building became available to buy outright.

Donald said, “Lynda and I are thrilled to conclude the purchase of the Black Bull Inn. When the opportunity came up to buy the building, it was chance to return this fabulous institution in the village, back to a free house for the first time in over 60 years.

“We plan to introduce a programme of improvements over the coming months while respecting the building's long history and traditional charm. There is lots to look forward to as business develops.

"The Bull has been at the heart of the community for generations now and we look forward to building on that by continuing to offer great food, excellent hospitality and always a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

“Lynda and I would like to thank the local community for their custom over the last 17 years and look forward to meeting all customers old and new over the coming months. Look out for details of a celebratory party that everyone will be welcome to attend.”

Simon Watson, Senior Business Agent – Hospitality at Christie & Co, who managed the sale process, commented, “I was delighted to work on behalf of Iona Pub Partnership, and want to wish Donald and Lynda continued success with their new ownership.”

The Black Bull Inn was sold at an undisclosed sum.
