Popular Glasgow pharmacy sold for the first time since 1987

Macbon Chemist is a well-performing community pharmacy that was mainly run by its owner, Elizabeth Mclaughlin, along with a team of employed and locum pharmacists. It dispenses circa 8,000 NHS items per month and is located in the heart of the Tollcross area in the east end of Glasgow.

Elizabeth has owned the pharmacy since 1987 and decided to sell it to allow her to pursue a well-earned retirement.

Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Craig Dickson at Christie Finance, it has been purchased by Ron Badger who owns and operates another pharmacy in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow.

Elizabeth Mclaughlin, former owner of Macbon Chemist, comments, “I have aspired over the years to make the pharmacy friendly and welcoming to our local community. My team and I have built up a great and trusted relationship with our clients. It was with great sadness that I decided that the time had come to sell the business but feel reassured that it has been left in good hands with Ron.”

Karl Clezy, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “Macbon Chemist was brought to the market at the same time as LloydsPharmacy placed its entire Scottish estate of around 200 branches on the market. Despite the market being flooded with opportunities, we managed to generate several notes of interest from existing contractors and first-time buyers alike which shows that there remains an appetite for well-performing independently owned pharmacies that have the potential to grow.”

Macbon Chemist was sold for an undisclosed price.
