The Plough Inn

The Plough Inn is a Grade II listed public house with three letting bedrooms, spacious owners' accommodation, and extensive outdoor trading areas. The pub has previously been renowned as a welcoming destination for both local residents and visitors to the area.

Situated on Coach Road in the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Sleights, the property occupies a prominent position on the main route between Whitby and the North York Moors National Park and boasts panoramic views across the Esk Valley.

Purchasers of The Plough Inn, David and Katie Cattley, are aiming to reopen the pub next year, bringing renewed hospitality provision to the village and safeguarding the future of one of the area's historic public houses.

They said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have secured The Plough Inn. As local people, we understand just how important pubs like this are to their communities, and we're passionate about bringing this fantastic building back to life.

“Our vision is to sympathetically restore and refurbish the property, celebrate its heritage, and create a warm, welcoming pub that the village can once again be proud of. We look forward to reopening in 2027 and becoming part of the community for many years to come.”

Marslie McGregor, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co, who managed the sale, commented, “The Plough Inn represented an excellent opportunity for an owner-operator to acquire a characterful village pub with significant potential.

“We are delighted to have completed the sale to David and his partner, whose passion for the hospitality industry and commitment to restoring this much-loved local asset made them the ideal purchasers. We wish them every success with their refurbishment plans and look forward to seeing The Plough Inn thriving once again when it reopens.”

The Plough Inn was sold at an undisclosed sum, off a freehold asking price of £300,000.
