Popular day nursery in Shawlands sold for the first time

Poppins Kindergarten is an established children’s day nursery situated on Queens Drive in Shawlands, Glasgow, and operates from a detached property with a registered capacity to provide childcare for up to 47 children. 

The setting has been operated by Jennifer and Elaine since 1990 and was brought to market as both look to retire. Under their stewardship, Poppins Kindergarten has regularly received 'Very Good' to 'Excellent' grades with the Care Inspectorate, highlighting the quality of provision the setting has provided to its local community.

Following a confidential sales process with Callum Lancaster at Christie & Co, it has been purchased by Saqib and Amir Sadiq of SADCO Nursery Group Ltd. This is the pair’s third setting, alongside one in Lochgelly and one in Glenrothes. The incoming buyers are incredibly eager to acquire the setting and have exciting renovation plans to make the nursery their own.

Jennifer and Elaine, former owners and managers of Poppins Kindergarten, comment, "After thirty-five years of devotion and dedication to Poppins, we have felt the time has come to take a step back and look to the possibility of retirement. We are delighted to pass over a nursery that is thriving in all aspects, and we trust it will continue to do so under the new ownership. At this time, we would like to thank all our parents and children across our thirty-five years of service, as well as Glasgow City Council and their early years department, for their continued support and overwhelming best wishes for our future. Additionally, we would like to thank our local community, who have truly made Poppins feel like a second home for staff, parents, and children alike.”

Saqib and Amir Sadiq, new owners of Poppins Kindergarten, comment, “We are delighted to have acquired our third setting, and first one in Glasgow!  We have plans for substantial improvement by the end of this year and truly believe we will be transforming and modernising this setting to benchmark standards. Poppins Kindergarten was sold for an undisclosed price.
