High-dispensing Tyne and Wear village pharmacy sold

R W Wilson Pharmacy is a busy community pharmacy that dispenses an average of 15,000 NHS script items per month. It sits on the main shopping parade in Winlaton village centre, close to two GP surgeries.

The pharmacy has been owned by John Currie for the last 19 years, and run by the Superintendent Pharmacist, who was also a shareholder in the business. Both owners decided to sell to retire from pharmacy ownership.

Following a confidential sales process with Karl Clezy at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Craig Dickson at Christie Finance, the pharmacy has been purchased by an experienced husband-and-wife team, Jagdeep and Jutinder Kaur, who own another pharmacy in the Newcastle area. 

Jagdeep and Jutinder Kaur, the new owners of R W Wilson Pharmacy, comment, “We want to build on the pharmacy’s already excellent reputation by expanding the services on offer to benefit the health of the local community.”

Karl Clezy, Director - Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “This sale attracted significant interest due to its strong trading performance and its trading location near Newcastle, where we see the highest demand in the north east region. We received three offers for this business, all from existing contractors in the area. The pharmacy benefitted from being run by a very good Pharmacist-owner, a modern fit-out, and its central location in the village, close to the two GP surgeries.”

Craig Dickson, Director at Christie Finance, comments, “I was delighted to arrange the finance, which allowed Jagdeep and Jutinder to acquire their second pharmacy. They already own a hugely successful pharmacy in the Newcastle area, and the purchase of RW Wilson is an ideal fit for them. Funding was secured via one of the main pharmacy lenders who continue to have a great appetite and track record for supporting the sector.”

R W Wilson Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
