The company is seeking an experienced food and beverage operating partner with the resources and expertise to accelerate growth throughout London, and the UK. Roasting Plant Coffee already has five established and profitable London stores in premium locations: The Strand, London Bridge (Borough Market), South Molton Street, High Holborn and Monument, offering coffee lovers a chance to enjoy freshly roasted artisan coffee.
The new strategy unlocks further expansion of the brand’s portfolio across North America, Asia and EMEA and can already be seen rolling out in new markets. In the US, recent store openings in partnership with The Fresh Market, include new locations in Miami (Florida) and Chicago (Illinois), continuing Roasting Plant Coffee’s strategic retail growth across the United States.
In Asia, the company recently signed its first new international licensing agreement in Singapore, marking the brand’s entry into Asia, with up to 50 locations in Singapore, with the first openings within the next six to twelve months.
The new strategy comes eighteen months after the arrival of Doug Satzman as the company’s CEO; Satzman’s extensive leadership experience includes senior executive roles at Starbucks in both the United States and as head of Starbucks EMEA Licensing. Leveraging this global operational and licensing expertise, the company is now pursuing an international licensing strategy, focused on experienced regional partners capable of scaling the Roasting Plant concept in major international markets.
“Roasting Plant Coffee has created a truly differentiated and highly personalized specialty coffee platform that uses its proprietary automation technology to roast premium coffee in every café and brew each cup to order in less than a minute for a unique and exceptional customer experience,” said Doug Satzman, CEO of Roasting Plant Coffee.
“Our retail success in the US and UK combined with our vertically integrated business model, including design, development and manufacturing of our Javabot™ in-store automation platform, have put us in a unique position for scalable growth around the world. The runway is massive in front of us, and I can see Roasting Plant cafes in shopping centres, malls, airports, universities and high streets in many major markets in the near future.”
The in-store Javabot™ technology, developed by the company, ensures fresh, consistent, artisan-quality coffee with a choice of coffee beans for the customer, at a value that compares favourably with other high street operators. This automation delivers lower operating costs with less labour and lower cost of goods leading to higher profits, enabling the brand to scale up rapidly.
Simon Chaplin, Senior Director at Christie & Co, commented, “We are delighted to be representing Roasting Plant in the UK as part of their international expansion strategy. With its Javabot™ technology, back of house automation, and exceptional customer experience, we feel it offers a UK entrepreneur an exciting opportunity to acquire and partner with a stand-out concept that can successfully expand throughout the UK.”
