Located in the Shropshire town of Wem, north of Shrewsbury, the business has very limited competition and presented an excellent opportunity for an incoming operator to further develop the forecourt and workshops.
The family had operated the site for over 30 years, with the father-and-son team growing the business into an extensive local amenity that included a well-stocked petrol station, vehicle sales business and workshops. Ben decided to sell the business so that the family could concentrate on vehicle sales, which they have relocated to another facility in the town.
After a comprehensive marketing campaign which attracted multiple offers, the successful buyer was Niza Group, a multisite operator based in the South East. Niza currently trades under the Nisa and Welcome Co Op shop banner, with Texaco fuel supply.
Ragu of Niza Group commented, “We are delighted with this latest acquisition, which takes our network to 13 petrol filling stations. We would like to thank Ben and his team for working with us to get the sale over the line. Ben has built a fantastic business that we want to move even further forward once we have settled in and have plans to develop the site further.”
Ben Young commented, “Having owned and operated the business for over 30 years, we felt the time was right to approach Christie & Co to sell, so we could concentrate on the used vehicle sales at a new location in Wem. It was a tough decision, as we have really enjoyed serving the customers during our time here and will continue to serve them elsewhere in the town. We wish Niza Group all the best with their latest acquisition and would like to thank Christie & Co for their help to get the deal done.”
Dave Morris, Regional Director at Christie & Co, handled the sale process and added, “The business is very well-known in the town, and is a credit to Ben and his family who have worked hard to offer the best service to customers. The site is an excellent addition to Niza Group and has helped them to further expand their portfolio across the Midlands. Petrol stations remain popular with buyers across the country looking to expand their portfolios.”
