Family-run Tiverton care home changes hands after three decades

St George’s House is a residential care home registered for 19 adults over 65 years. It occupies an attractive 16-bedroom period property on Park Road, close to Tiverton town centre.

The home has been owned by the Lindley family for three decades and was brought to market to allow the current owners to fully retire from the care sector.

Following a confidential sales process with Eve-Angelica Apperley at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Tamara Ryan at Christie Finance, the home has been purchased by first-time buyers, Shaji Mathew and Jincy Francis of Sussex Care Limited.

Matthew Lindley, the former owner of St George’s House, comments, “The family moved from the original care home at Bolham House in 1985 to St George's, converting it from a hotel to a retirement home originally. Maureen and Brian ran it until they needed to requalify in 2006. I completed the RMA for them and took the reins in 2007, running it alongside my job as a construction manager for TFL. I've been running it to allow them to retire for 19 years, until Maureen's health deteriorated and she needed a room in the home for herself. That was the point we decided to sell to allow everyone to move on and Maureen to be cared for in her own home!”

Shaji Mathew, the new owner of St George’s House, comments, “Our family already has a strong background in care, with my wife also being a nurse. We also have several other businesses, so this felt like a natural next step for us.
