Also known as ‘The Cross Keys’, the property dates to the 17th century and has been a public house since around 1840. The traditional village pub and restaurant still features a historic bar, which has been recognised by CAMRA as ‘of special national historic interest’.

The Docks comprises three rooms for drinking, and three dining areas, with the restaurant seating over 80 patrons. Regular events are held in the bar known as the ‘Music Room’ with its piano, such as traditional Irish music nights on Thursdays which have been running for over 30 years, and acoustic jamming nights on Fridays.

The property was sensitively refurbished five years ago, creating a charming combination of original character features such as log burners, stone walls, wooden beams and an oak-framed conservatory along with modern fixtures and fittings. The renovations also included creating a self-contained flat on the first floor which can be used as owners’/managers’ accommodation, and five ensuite bedrooms which are at various stages of completion and could be converted into bed and breakfast accommodation.

Located next to the church in the village of Selattyn, a mile from the Welsh border, The Docks has been owned by Shaun Coadey and Becky Ford since 2019, during which time it has grown in popularity and reputation, both for its food offering and as an old-fashioned drinking spot. They commented: “We have decided it is time to hang up our beer serving aprons to see some more of the world, and hand the baton over to someone who will love this pub as much as we have. It’s time to shake ourselves up and experience pastures new. Owning this pub, that we already knew and loved, has been a privilege, but it is time to move on, no matter how successful we have been.”

James Dodd, Business Agent at Christie & Co, said: “It is an honour to sell a pub that has such a good reputation, both locally and across the country.  We look forward to finding the right buyer to take the pub forward and we welcome enquiries from interested parties.”

The Docks is on the market with a freehold asking price of £525,000.
