Family-run Yorkshire newsagents store sold for the first time in 60 years
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Towlers Ltd, a well-known newsagent shop in the market town of Easingwold, North Yorkshire.
Business. Built around You.

Towlers Ltd is a family-run newsagent that has been in the Rushton family for over 60 years and is the last of several stores sold by Christie & Co for the family in popular North Yorkshire locations, including Pately Bridge, Kirkbymoorside and Thirsk.
The traditional newsagent and greetings card shop offers a wide range of products, including quality toys, jigsaws, confectionery, tobacco, newspapers, magazines, and cards. The property also contains first-floor offices and residential spaces.
The store was sold due to retirement, with Joe Rushton continuing to focus on growing their jigsaw business.
The new owners of the business, Mr & Mrs Rasamohan, are experienced convenience store operators from Yorkshire.
Former owner Joe Rushton commented, “After 65 years as a family-run business, it feels like the right moment to pass things on. I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the years, it has meant the world to us. I would also like to wish Mohan and Nanthini all the very best for the future.”
Andrew Birnie, Director – Retail at Christie & Co, who managed the sale, added, “Really pleased to get this sale across the line and worked in tandem with my colleague Steve Riley in our Leeds office. Stores like this in sought after villages in North Yorkshire rarely come to the market. This was snapped up quickly with lots of interest from buyers across the country.”
Towlers Ltd was marketing with an asking price of £600,000 and sold for an undisclosed sum.
