Mike Cheskin originally bought Charfield Service Station after he left an oil company, where he was a Territory Manager. Spotting the opportunity to operate his own forecourt, he acquired Charfield and later Cotswold Service Station. In more recent years, his family joined the business, with both his son and daughter actively involved in the day to day running of the sites. Both sites were supplied by Certas under the Gulf banner and the shops were independent.
The new owners, Niza Enterprises, who operate a group of convenience stores and small group of forecourts, saw these two forecourts as a great opportunity to add to their group as the sites offer scope for longer trading hours including Sundays and development potential within the shops.
Ragu of Niza enterprises comments, “I am delighted with these latest additions to our group and we have big plans to develop the sites further, particularly the shops. We will be opening Sundays and are looking to introduce a number of other services to each site. I would like to thank Mike and his family for their help with the hand over process and wish them all the best for the future.”
Previous owner, Mike Cheskin also comments, “After 26 years’ of operating Charfield and 24 years’ operating Cotswold Service Stations, I decided to call it a day at the age of 77. Having made the momentous decision, I contacted Dave Morris of Christe and Co. The sale, which was not without its challenges, was conducted in a very professional manner with Dave always available to assist in the challenging matters.”
Dave Morris, Regional Director at Christie & Co, who brokered the deal, adds, “It’s great to get this sale over the line for Mike and his family. The sale demonstrates that the forecourt market is buoyant and independent regional groups remain acquisitive for the right opportunities. There was good potential here to add value and I look forward to visiting the sites after Ragu has settled in.”
Niza Enterprises will look to stay with Gulf supplied fuel but are keen to develop the shops further, so are likely to partner with Southern Co Op to offer customers a wider selection of goods and services at each site.
