These latest additions to the growing Chestnut portfolio, which now totals 24 pubs with rooms and hotels, are set in two delightful country villages in Dedham Vale, more commonly known as ‘Constable Country’, on the Essex-Suffolk border.
The Anchor Inn, set by the riverside in Nayland, and The Angel Inn, a food-led pub with award-winning rooms at Stoke-by-Nayland, have been sold by Suffolk Country Inns. They have developed the pubs over the last decade with recent investment making them ideal for new operators. The sales were completed off-market in just three months, ready to take advantage of the summer trade.
Philip Turner at Chestnut commented, “Despite the challenging environment, we remain committed to a successful future for hospitality and are thrilled to welcome these charming places into our collection, securing their future for local communities. Each one has its own character, which, as always, we’ll preserve, adding Chestnut’s commitment to place, provenance and personality.”
The sales were managed by Simon Chaplin and Hugo Fairbanks-Weston at Christie & Co. Hugo added, “Each property offered a unique opportunity, and we’re thrilled to have facilitated transactions that align so well with the buyer’s vision. We look forward to seeing these pubs flourish under Chestnut’s stewardship. The demand for good pub and restaurant businesses remains with expert pricing advice key to a successful sale.”
The pubs were sold at an undisclosed price.
