The Shepherd & Dog

First established as a beer house in 1848 and later rebuilt in 1929, the historic pub offers 60 covers across its well-presented bar and restaurant dining areas, providing a flexible layout suitable for both casual drinking and seated dining. The pub also has a spacious beer garden.

Occupying a prominent position in Langham, the pub sits near the heart of the village, easily accessible for residents, walkers and travellers passing through.

After being closed for almost six months, the owner of The Shepherd & Dog, experienced pub investor Justin Fenwick, was seeking a new tenant to reopen the venue and run the business.

The new tenants, Soma, Jyothirmayi and Veera, who also run a successful restaurant business in Cambridge, plan to run The Shepherd & Dog as a traditional pub as well as bringing in an Indo-English cuisine.

They added, “We are delighted to be taking on The Shepherd & Dog and are committed to preserving its role as a traditional village pub at the heart of the community, complemented by a carefully curated Indo-English food offering.

“The support we have received from residents since reopening has been fantastic, and we look forward to building on the pub's proud heritage and creating a welcoming venue for both locals and visitors alike.”

Justin commented, “I am very pleased to welcome the new team to the Shepherd and Dog. Having been born brought up two miles away in Higham, I am delighted that we have been able to re-open this very nice pub.  I hope the fusion of English and Indian cooking in a traditional pub setting will make a popular venue for those living in the area.  I wish the new tenants every success.”

Hugo Fairbanks Weston, Business Agent – Pubs & Restaurants at Christie & Co, who managed the sale process, commented, “This was a great deal for everyone involved. Locals to the pub were very keen to see it re-open and were recently welcomed to the recent opening night. We look forward to seeing The Shepherd & Dog thrive under the new operators.”

The lease for The Shepherd & Dog was sold at an undisclosed sum, off an asking price of £25,000.
