The site was owned by Michael Peake for over 40 years and has been sold due to his retirement from the sector.
The site has been sold to Mr Biswas and his son Shehan, who are experienced local forecourt operators who bring a wealth of industry and local knowledge to the business. They plan to continue building on the established trade that Michael, and more recently the tenant of the site, has enjoyed.
Shehan and his father also plan to re-fit the store and expand its offerings, particularly fresh fruit and veg, as well as hot food to go.
Shehan commented, “Firstly, we would like to thank Mick and Mandy for selling their business to us. From meeting with them both, we know how sentimental the site was to them. We look forward to meeting our customers and welcoming new ones too.
“My dad and I plan to build on the established relationships the site already has with the community, whilst expanding on some of the products and services on offer.
“We wish Mick and Mandy all the best in their retirement.”
Michael commented, “We would like to wish the new owners of Whittington Garage, Mr Biswas and Shehan, all the very best for the future. There are exciting times ahead for the surrounding community. We would also like to thank Lewis at Christie & Co for his assistance in marketing and the sale of the garage.”
Lewis Last, Associate Director at Christie & Co, managed the sale and added, “I am very pleased to have brokered this deal. It was an excellent demonstration of the success that structured marketing can have when bringing petrol filling stations to the market. After two successful open days, we were fortunate to receive multiple bids. This deal had a collaborative feel, with buyers and sellers both motivated to reach the shared end goal.
“I’d like to thank Mick and Mandy for entrusting Christie & Co with the sale of the site. It was a privilege to be given the opportunity to deliver this result and we wish the family well for their retirement plans.
“Congratulations to Mr Biswas and Shehan too. I look forward to revisiting the site when they have implemented their new ideas, including a shop re-brand and new store layout. Given their success at another site nearby, I have no doubt they will continue to grow this well-established business.”
The site was sold at an undisclosed price.
