Funding continues to challenge the care sector
The news announced yesterday regarding the future of Allied Healthcare is a blow to the sector and serves to highlight the very real issue the entire care sector faces in regards to local authority funding.
With rates of between £11 - £13 in some areas, this isn’t surprising, what’s more worrying is who will pick up the hours should this happen. Whilst Allied Healthcare can’t sustain these figures, most companies will want much higher rates and this may result in higher use of agency staff, ultimately increasing the spend of council budgets.
In September, we published our ‘Adult Social Care 2018: Funding, Staffing and the Winter Crisis’ report. The report highlights the need for sustainable funding and a joint approach between the NHS and Adult Social Care to commissioning was reinforced by pressures resulting from the winter of 2017/18.
