Chichester Hotel in Essex secures new tenant through Christie & Co

Dating back to the 13^th century, the Chichester Hotel takes its name from Sir John de Chichestre, who was the original occupant of Chichester Hall. The characterful property features 36 ensuite bedrooms, a bar, restaurant and extensive wedding and event spaces.

The sale was brokered by Simon Jackaman, Director – Hotels East Anglia at Christie & Co, who comments, “The hotel had been closed for a while as the previous lessees had vacated but given its history and location, I knew that the opportunity would draw interest from buyers far and wide.”

Following a comprehensive marketing process, over 30 potentially interested parties viewed the property during two open viewing days. This resulted in 20 indicative offers from a wide range of buyers, many in excess of the guide price of £1,600,000. A best and final offer process was undertaken with a sale being achieved significantly over the guide price through a competitive bidding process to an existing hotel group.

In conclusion, Simon said, “I’m delighted to have been involved in achieving a great outcome for our clients and selling the hotel into good hands. The new tenants have significant plans to quickly re-establish the hotel and merge it within their existing portfolio. This deal illustrates that for the right assets, there remains a strong market for hotels across Essex and the East Anglia area.”
