Dating back to 1904, The King Alred Hotel is ideally situated on the main thoroughfare between Walney and Barrow-in-Furness and is an established local landmark in the area. The hotel is named after the first-of-class warship, HMS King Alfred, which was built in 1901 just across the Walney Channel at the Naval Construction Yard.
Today, The King Alfred Hotel features ten ensuite letting rooms with views over Walney Channel, as well as a bar, a restaurant, and a spacious function room, which is often booked for parties and events. The hotel boasts strong local support and an excellent reputation for its food offering, its welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and it’s considered an integral part of the community.
The hotel is currently owned by businessman, Mike Mulgrew, and his family, who acquired the hotel in 2015 and invested to create the successful business the hotel is today.
Mike Mulgrew comments, “I always saw tremendous potential in The King Alfred Hotel. It was a privilege to be able to acquire the business and I am very proud of how, over the last ten years, The King Alfred has gone from strength to strength. We have worked hard to create a business that remains very much part of the local community, and we are very grateful for all the support we have received from our locals and visitors alike.”
Graham Wilkinson, Business Agent at Christie & Co who is handling the sale, comments, “It is a pleasure to help Mike and his family look to pass on this successful and popular business to new owners. Just as the shipbuilding industry has evolved over the last 125 years since the hotel was built, the hotel has also continued to evolve and be developed to meet the needs of today's guests, visitors and local community. The demand for strong businesses with a great local reputation are always in demand and we expect there to be a good level of interest in this sale.”
The Kind Alfred Hotel is on the market at an asking price of £835,000.
