Local operator snaps up Yorkley Post Office as owners semi-retire

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co is pleased to announce Yorkley Post Office has been sold to an experienced local operator.

This well established post office and convenience store with a three-bed owner's accommodation has been owned and operated by Andy and Donna Palmer for nearly ten years.

The Post Office is situated in the heart of Yorkley in West Gloucestershire, approximately three miles north of Lydney and draws most of its trade from the variety of residential buildings, local businesses and the village primary school surrounding the property. However, with the stunning Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also located nearby, the business benefits from a steady level of passing trade.

Andy and Donna made the decision to bring the store to the market to move back to Buckinghamshire and semi-retire, offering an ideal platform for a new regional operator to take the business forward.

They comment, “We have mixed feelings about selling the business after ten years. Whilst we will miss all of our wonderful customers we felt that we needed more time for family and friends. The plan is to move back to Aylesbury, have three months off and take time to decide our future.”

The sale process was managed by Jamie Williams, Senior Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Retail team. He comments, “We were able to generate over 20 viewings and 13 offers before a deal was agreed to a local operator, with an existing relationship with our company.

The successful purchaser is Prashant Patel, an experienced operator who owns stores in Bristol. He comments, “We are excited to get going, develop the business further and welcome customers in the store. It has been a pleasure to deal with Andy and Donna and we hope all goes well with their move back to Buckinghamshire. We’d also like to extend our thanks to Jamie Williams at Christie & Co who expertly managed the deal.”

The previous owners, Andy and Donna add, “Covid-19 really slowed down the selling process and made securing finance for potential buyers much more difficult but Jamie from Christie and Co used his expertise and knowledge to maintain a steady flow of viewings and eventually, we secured an excellent buyer.

“We wish Mr. Prashant Patel and his family the very best wishes for living in and running the business. It is a wonderful village community which relies on its local Post office and convenience store.”

Jamie Williams from Chrsitie & Co also adds, “The interest that we were able to generate through this sale really emphasises the levels of demand that we are seeing for retail assets as a result of the positive impact Covid-19 has had on trading performance. It’s a great time to consider selling, so if you would like to arrange a confidental chat to discuss the value of your business, please get in touch.”
