Closed Kent care home to be reopened as a children’s home

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of a vacant care home, previously trading as Copperfields Residential Home, in Kent.

The home comprises a detached four-storey dwelling with two-storey and single-storey extensions to the side and rear. It also benefits from private parking and an enclosed garden with a patio area. The property sits in the village of Higham in Kent, just off the A226 with Rochester to the east and Gravesend to the west.

The site has been sold to David, Clare and Hugo Lewis of Bay Tree House who specialise in services for children and young adults and plan to reopen the former elderly home as a children’s home.

David Lewis comments, “We plan to update the interior suitable for a children’s home, generally modernising the building with an appropriate layout. The building lends itself well as it can provide therapy, sensory and playrooms in addition to the required children’s and staff bedrooms. Counselling rooms can also be accommodated in a building of this size, giving the ability to offer this service in house and not having to rely on over stretched public services. Such counselling services will also be used by our current provision in Gravesend.

“We hope to have our proposals to change the home from the elderly to children and registration with Ofsted approved by spring 2022.”

John Harrison, Director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “We are delighted that the Lewis family are investing in the next chapter at Copperfields by continuing with the success they have already enjoyed with their current business, Bay Tree House, nearby.

“We are continuing to see strong demand for closed care homes across the South East from a variety of end users.”

Copperfields Residential Home was sold for an undisclosed price.
