Oakwood House Nursery near Glasgow sold to Busy Bees
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Oakwood House Nursery near Glasgow.
Established in 1995 by Valerie Fotheringham, Oakwood House Nursery is a 172-place day nursery with an excellent reputation and a strong leadership and senior support team. The business is situated within the town of Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire, approximately 4 miles from Glasgow City Centre. It is located within an affluent, predominantly residential area with a high degree of professional working families.
Oakwood House is one of the longest-established nurseries in South Lanarkshire and is well-known in the local area for having an environment which facilitates a high standard of care and education. The business comprises two main buildings; Oak Cottage which is a purpose-built facility for children aged 0 to 3, and The Pre-School Centre which is housed in a large Victorian villa and caters for children aged 3 to 5 years.
After 26 years of ownership, Valerie decided to sell Oakwood House Nursery to pursue a well-earned retirement. The business has been purchased by the UK’s largest nursery group, Busy Bees.
Valerie Fotheringham comments, “I have thoroughly enjoyed caring for hundreds of children over the years, working alongside our dedicated team of educators since 1995. Busy Bees shares our mission to ensure every child’s happiness, wellbeing and progress is prioritised, so I am in no doubt that Oakwood House is in safe hands as I begin my retirement.
“I will be sad to say goodbye to all the families, children and our team, but I will be taking so many wonderful memories with me from over the years. The children, families and staff mean so much to me and I know that Busy Bees will look after them within this new chapter that comes ahead. I wish them all the very best for the future.”

Oakwood House Nursery was sold for an undisclosed sum.
